Dixmont’s laundry building was built in 1955 and processed all patient laundry. Prior to the early 1973 when patient labor was discontinued, patients would deliver laundry to this building via a tunnel that connected to Reed Hall. The tunnel had tracks with rolling laundry carts. During the final years of Dixmont’s existence, it proved more efficient to send all laundry to Woodville State Hospital by truck to be cleaned, so Dixmont’s on-site laundry building was put out of full usage.
